Re: Season Tickets sold out

From what's been reported we pulled out of the ihennaco deal because Bilic decided to? Apparently the player wanted guarantees that couldn't be given.

As far as Giroud goes, it seems one source has reported we are out of the deal (Goal) and others saying our interest is still there but we're less hopeful (Standard).

I think it's a default position for anyone cynical about the board / club based on previous perceptions.

Re: Season Tickets sold out
no one buys a season tkt on a rumour of wbo we may sign but the question of why did we pull ot of inneacho and giroud deals the day after season tkts sold remains.

coincidence yep probably but very odd timiing

We have some fantastically thick supporters, but I really don't think any are THAT thick.

I think some are hardly going to post on somewhere such as here saying they are furious and complaining they have bought a ST based partly on transfer stories and speculation in the media

Likemydreams

Are you telling me all those people who'd bought season tickets based purely on that premise wouldn't be fuming and complaining about it.

Maybe they are - just without explicitly saying it...

Re: Season Tickets sold out
13 clearly some of that rings true, I'm not blind to the boards sometimes blatant inadequacies but there are a couple of things which I think don't ring true;

- I can list a lot of players in the squad which have performed very well and have significantly increased in value since arriving (some double or even triple so)

- watching West Ham is relatively cheap compared to others in the same league (I have a friend who watches Southend and even his season ticket is more expensive than mine!)

- the move to the Olympic stadium whilst yet to pay off, will do huge benefit for the club, being able to sell 52,000 in itself can only be a good thing for the club (you might disagree with the whys and where fors of the deal - it makes sense for the club, even though for a number of fans it does not make sense for them)

- yes they have raised expectations ridiculously high by spouting off about champions league in 7 years and signing this player and that player, this causes angst umongst the fans (even myself) however let's be fair they've toned it right down this summer and who knows hopefully from now on will continue in that vein (although I want them to remain ambitious to taking us to the next level at least!)

All this still doesn't really prove that they do it to sell season tickets or that they aren't genuinely in for these players or that indeed people buy season tickets for that reason.

They've got a lot wrong, especially the last two transfer windows which have been a fucking joke (how much the manager has had to do with that is and should remain between them) but let's not pretend they haven't done good things for the club too.

Re: Season Tickets sold out
Funny thing about Birmingham is their best run of form in the last 30 years came under G&S. Even when the club won the cup the season after they sold them on, they got relegated and haven't come back since.

Re: Season Tickets sold out
"Back in 2009, shortly before David Sullivan and David Gold purchased a controlling share of West Ham United a Birmingham City fan wrote to KUMB.

The supporter, who posted under the pseudonym mickey07 wrote to West Ham supporters on several occasions to offer his views on Sullivan and Gold, who sold Birmingham to convicted fraudster Carson Yeung in 2009, during the first few months of their regime.

Earlier this week his posts were exhumed from the Forum archives by KUMB member southendmadhammer, who was struck by how prescient the City fan had been with his predictions seven years ago.

"Welcome to the world of very average players being signed from the fizzy pop leagues!" he wrote back in October 2009, shortly before the sale of West Ham was confirmed. "To find out what approach Sullivan, Gold and Brady will take towards West Ham just look back in the archives for their time at Birmingham.

"Firstly, they'll tell the fans that you are in debt (their figures, not necessarily substantiated) and the fear created justifies the inevitable increase in ticket prices in the summer (Birmingham were more expensive to watch than Man Utd).

"Secondly, they'll blame high wages for the club's problems, but then make out that you will spend a huge sum of money on a 'star' player's wages (conveniently unnamed) - there was never any realistic chance that the player would sign, but gives the supporters the false impression that these guys are prepared to back big transfers.

"Thirdly, they'll avoid spending any money on facilities by trying to move the club to a new ground that someone else has paid for - ie the 2012 Olympic Stadium. Witness the failed campaign aimed at getting the City Council to pay for a new stadium in Birmingham which the club would move to but not contribute towards.

"Birmingham's fans, like those of any club, can certainly be accused of periods of unrealistic expectation but then it was Sullivan himself that made comments about Champions League qualification, not the supporters."

And when asked if he was simply being a little ungrateful, mickey replied: "On occasions, for sure, but being regularly reminded for 15 years of how our club was 'saved' eventually wears a little thin.

"Sully loves a gamble on mickey mouse, no mark players that he thinks he's going to sell for £20million in a few years. And before every transfer window, he will promise you the world and deliver little/nothing.

"If you think [former CEO Scott] Duxbury is bad with spin, just wait until Sullivan starts! He will definitely surpass Duxbury, and within two or three years time you will definitely be doing this."

P.s. Cheers for digging that out 13, interesting that the standard saying yesterday and today that interest remains alive but less hopeful.

Guess we're none the wiser at this stage!

Re: Season Tickets sold out
Funny that no ones ever met one of these thousands of fans that renewed based on a transfer rumour or two.

Also not sure I've heard anyone from the club describe that they are looking for a MARQUEE signing.

On the whole club have been very low key on transfer related matters this summer.

Re: Season Tickets sold out
"Reports suggest that both Everton, who are on the verge of selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, and Marseille remain keen on the France international but he is unlikely to make a decision over his future before August.
The Hammers, though, are not prepared to wait that long, and will instead focus their efforts elsewhere.
While Hernandez is believed to be an attainable target, such is his £13m release clause, the former Manchester United striker is understood to be demanding a weekly wage of £140,000, which would break the club’s current wage structure"

Re: Season Tickets sold out
although I don't personally (and don't know anyone who has), I would be very surprised if there are not a fair few supporter who do buy ST on the strength of rumours

13 Brentford Rd 4:53 Sat Jul 8
Re: Season Tickets sold out
I'm sure some who were unsure whether to renew or not or buy a ST were swayed by all the usual big talk of "MARQUE signings" before ST renewals and before the window opened.
As I said they have form for this at both clubs.
Not a secret is it?

Not sure where you're reading it Brentford - I've seen two evening standard articles (yesterday and today) which both say something along the lines of:

Our pursuit of him remains very much alive, although we are less confident in him coming and that Marseille and Everton are now in the frame.

Where is it being reported we've pulled out?
